WHAT IS RAMA LAMA??

We could brag a bit and let Ja Ja Ja Music sum it up for us as they once so nicely did: ”If you’re looking for indie-pop in Stockholm, you go to Rama Lama Records. The label is notable for the solid stylistic niche they’ve cut out for themselves, as well as how tight-a-scene they’ve formed”. Or to put it in our own words…

Rama Lama Records is a Stockholm-based label that was founded by us (Axel & Sixten) back in 2016. We were 20 years old and had for the last couple of years broadcasted and written about music with the ambition to give good indie music a platform. Axel’s dad offered us to start up a small, little label within his aquarium company. We had no idea how to run a label, but we knew we wanted to figure it out.

So what happened next? We signed what we thought were two of the best new acts on the Stockholm scene, started planning parties and sold out our two first ones which got us press early on from some of our favourite blogs and magazines. The label fam grew, and we finally had to start our own company and move out of the basement where our vinyl and merch shared the space with countless guppies and goldfish. Since then, we've continued to release music we love by the talented people we love, and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Besides putting out great music we’ve always been something of a party planning committee, with label nights thrown regularly in Sweden, but also in London and Copenhagen. It has always been a key part of our idea to create a space both for bands and fans to find new music.

Every year for our birthday we throw a party out on an island in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago with ticket-buyers coming in by boat to see our bands play live dangerously close to the water, play volleyball, barbecue, and just hang out. We think those days are what sums up the heart of Rama Lama the best - spontaneity, good times, and good music. All photos in the attached booklet (except the one of us surrounded by alpacas) are from those parties. Perhaps you’re in one of the photos?

As we’re writing this, we as a label are just turning five years old. We’ve put together this compilation with some of our favourite tracks from the first five years which we hope you’ll enjoy.

Most of all, we want to thank everyone that in some way has been a part of Rama Lama Records. For us, that means everyone that has come out to a show, bought some stuff, listened to a song, recommended a song to a fellow music fan, partners and venues who believed in us, all our friends and loved ones (a special shout-out to Olivia & Isabelle) who have helped out so much, and of course all the bands and people that we’ve had the honour to work with and get to know over the last years.
